Being tested alongside a wingless 2017 Camaro ZL1, neat! Not sure what the point is since the Z06 is pretty much a ZR1 and the Grand Sport is a Z06. Maybe Chevy will discountinue the Z06 and replace it with a track car that can be tracked. The 2018 Corvette ZR1: Sorry about the Z06, here’s a new one without the limp! I’m kidding, the C7 is wicked in all its forms, whether doing pulls or being pulled.

Would explain why some midengined performance car would be coming soon then. What everyone forgets is that switching the layout also allows the car to go AWD (or hybrid) without Chevy dealerships being burned to the ground. Still don’t think the regular C8s will be rear-mid though. Just a Ford GT/Hypercar entry to get all these hundreds of thousands of dollars so many people want to put in applications just for the opportunity to spend!

At this point the horsepower is just stupid. Might as well just cook the paint off the hood with some poorly managed turbo heat.

Take this as you will, but my uncle’s done contract work for the new ZR1 and says it has 800hp and has been setting track records at every track they’ve taken it to “out west”. That’s basically all he could legally tell me about it though.

Which makes the MR Corvette look even more unlikely. Why would they still be developing the current one if it was being ditched?

As someone who is tired of the Dodge Hellcat over-hype...

An MR hi-po car is all but confirmed based on the spy shots we’ve seen, and apparently Katech (I think they’re making the upcoming LT4) had something about a C8 ZR1/Zora on their website and took it down the same day.

MR car in general, yes. But as far as it being a Corvette... I doubt it. There doesn’t seem to be any reason to continue development of the current Corvette if a MR one was coming down the pipes so soon.

That said I don’t see the reason to lable a MR car as a Corvette anyway. All you do is destroy it’s heritage. It’s like making a front-engined 911.

Thinking the same thing. There’s no real reason for running the ZL1 in camo anymore...

No I agree with the heritage argument. However, it could be just a variant with the mainline one still being FR

Still doesn’t make a ton of sense. It’s sure not going to be a base model, Z06 is taken and it looks like ZR1 will be shortly. What are they going to label it as? If they’re bringing out a new badge I don’t understand why they’d also hang on to the Corvette ones.

I wouldn’t call it over hyped. A two ton car with that much power that stays cool after hard use is an impressive feat that GM hasn’t seemed to master.

I don’t know. This is a thing though. And it's an LT5, not an LT4 like I said earlier. If you remember, the LT5 was designed by Lotus to go into the C4 ZR1. http://www.motorauthority.com/news/1105152_t…

That hood, front end, and lack of aero says ZL1. I don’t think that Camaro is part of the testing in terms of being a benchmark or anything. It seems like an old prototype that’s getting a bit of extra lifespan.

Agreed that the heat soak is an issue but two different type of blowers Twin scroll (FCA) vs Roots-style (GM/Ford). Twin Scrolls typically run way cooler than Roots due to compression happening in the center of the scrolls. Roots doesnt compress and just moves air thus doing more work than Twins. Not sure if one is more efficient than the other and im not a engineer at the big three but obviously there is a reason why they use what they use.

My big thing about the Hellcats is its a pissing match about who can make more power. Slap on a big Turbo on to a LSx, Hemi, or Coyote and you can easily pass the that 707hp mark. But in todays world people seem to care more about your ‘Ring time than 1/4 mile. What I am trying to point out is it is easy to add power, its a bit harder to make it handle.
